Dalgona Challenge Poster (Revised)

A redesign of my original 2023 event poster for Vista Ridge High School Korean Culture Club’s Dalgona Challenge. I revisited the poster to improve its visual hierarchy, simplify the composition, and make the event concept easier to understand.

Original Poster, 2023

The original poster was created in November 2023 for a Korean Culture Club event inspired by Squid Game. I illustrated most of the visual elements in Procreate, including the background, red splatter textures, dripping shapes, and supporting graphic details.

What I've done

  • Illustrated most visuals in Procreate, including the background, red splatter textures, dripping shapes, and supporting graphic details.

  • Used multiple dalgona shapes and Squid Game-inspired imagery to create an energetic event poster.

What I should improve

  • The visual hierarchy was unclear, and too many elements competed for attention.

  • Event details were hard to read.

Redesigned Direction

For the redesign, I wanted to reduce the visual noise and focus on the most important part of the event: the tension of carving the dalgona without cracking it. Instead of showing many shapes and decorative elements, I centered the poster around one umbrella-shaped dalgona and a needle touching the edge of the shape.

Final Poster, 2026

The final poster reduces the concept into one clear moment: carefully carving the umbrella-shaped dalgona without breaking it. By focusing on this action, the redesign makes the purpose of the event easier to understand at first glance, even for viewers who may not be familiar with the dalgona challenge.

What I've changed & accomplished

Refined the original Squid Game-inspired concept with a more intentional palette: black for the background, hot pink for the accents, and caramel gold for the dalgona.

Centered the umbrella dalgona and needle as the main focal point, making the challenge immediately clear.

Built a stronger hierarchy by making the title and dalgona the first elements viewers notice, then guiding the eye down to the event details.

Changed the supporting phrase to “One crack and you’re out” to make the poster feel more playful while making the challenge easier to understand.

Added a subtle upper-left lighting effect to create a spotlight on the dalgona and strengthen the mood.
